"my lovely mum"

About: Basildon University Hospital South West Essex PCT

(as a relative),

my mum was admited to basildon hospital in september after a fall at home. Myself and our family have just spent the last 4 months watching my mum wither away under the care of the nhs. Although mum had some problems, she was a very healthy elderly lady, and after losing 3 stone in weight and developing horrendous bedsores, she passed away on boxing day.

I have just been reading the posts about basildon, and it seems there are many stories that echo our experience: often not enough staff; meals and drinks left to fester on trays where patients are unable to help themselves; relatives struggling to feed their loved ones and other patients in the wards; lack of communication between different shifts and handovers; incomplete files; long waits on uncomfortable a&e trolleys; the list goes on.

I am a very positive person and did not take heed of the comments made by other people about the state of our hospitals as I was sure this could not be, but after the traumatic time my family and most of all my poor mum had, I dread the day any other members of my family, friends or myself should have to endure this treatment. I would like to know, when are things going to improve?
