"Aneurysm Clipping Surgery Care on ward N1"

Having a previous history of brain haemorrhage and aneurysms I was admitted to the Hallamshire hospital with headaches.

Subsequent tests showed 2 new aneurysms which required clipping surgery.Unfortunately my operation was cancelled twice at the last moment due to emergency admissions and the lack of intensive care beds.

Eventually my operation was carried out. Unfortunately the surgery was not straightforward as my brain bled during the operation due to previous surgery scar tissue.

Eventually I was transferred to Ward N1 for post operative recovery. The staff were wonderfully committed to the care of their patients. I received excellent nursing and my family were kept up to date all the time.

My only criticism is the number of foreign speaking nurses. This is not a racist attack but outlines the difficulty in communication between nursing staff and patients as a couple of days after surgery my speech was badly affected. No-one noticed this problem as the nurses were not native English speakers. Eventually after about 24 hours my family had to raise the speech issue with an English nurse and I was swiftly transferred to one of the high support nursing bays and connected to a machine in my neck to pump liquids into me. The pump aimed to raise my blood pressure and ensure a good blood supply to my brain tissue.

My consultant (Mr Patel) worked tirelessly to ensure that I made the best possible recovery. He seems to work far too hard and I noticed how often he was present on the wards at all hours of the day and night. Thank you so much for ensuring that I made a good recovery.
