"I liked having a play worker to play with me while I waited in hospital"

About: Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

(as the patient),

I see the same doctor every time I come to the hospital, Dr Wynn. He's very friendly to me, but I'm shy so sometimes I don't want to talk. He tells me just what he's going to do and what's happening to me.

I used to be really worried about coming to hospital. I used to be frightened but I'm not now.

I am 9 years old.

We normally have to wait quite a long time, sometimes it's an hour. I come every 4 months, my appointments are in the mornings most of the time.

We used to go to Pendlebury Hospital and there was a room where I could play and draw while I was waiting. There was a play worker who played with me and helped me draw while I waited to see the doctor. I really liked that because it didn't feel like I was waiting for liong.

Pendlebury was closer to my house.

Thanks for your comments.

It's lovely to hear that you are happy with the care you get and that you like seeing Dr Wynn. It's good that you know what's happening to you and that you are not scare dabout coming to hospital.

I will take your comments about the play worker to the haematology/oncology department and will post back on here when I have more information on this.

Thank you.
