"Proffesional, communicative,..."

About: University Hospital Lewisham

What I liked

The 121 care given by the Midwifery team and midwifery student was great. We were always kept informed about our options all the way though the labour and informed about what was happening and any risks related. This really helped us to feel like we were in control of our choices. The communication between the midwifes and doctors was very good. The whole team were proffesional in their approach and worked well together, especialy in the moments after the birth when blood pressure was very low and there was alot of bleeding. The team responded very quickly and managed the situation, and me (panicking father!), with great control and skill to bring the medical situation under control.

What could be improved

There are a few minor points such as not being able to find scissors after admnistering the epidural. The aneastatist was quite openly critical of the midwife in front of us and the midwife's student.

Some of the staff would wonder into the room at random points to get pieces of equipment that they needed. Why didn't they have it stored somewhere or already in the room.

Anything else?

We do recommend the hospital for it's labour ward and post labour care. Everybody we met were great and very helpful. Our whole labour was just over 12 hours so were lucky to have one midwife almost all the way through the delivery just one change after the birth.
