I have been an artist since childhood, delighting in creative activities.
In my late twenties I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a neuro-muscular complaint which limited the work I could do. At the suggestion of a neurologist friend I started to work as an artist with patients at a Younger Disabled Unit, then at a Hospice. Parallel to this I produced my own work which I was able to show at exhibitions.
This was all very rewarding, then I became more aware of sight problems. After seeing the eye consultant, Mr Ball at Wharfedale hospital in Otley, West Yorkshire, he diagnosed cataracts in both eyes due to steroid treatment and becoming Diabetic.
Within 9 months both eyes had been successfully treated. Throughout the proceedure I was told what he was doing and what to expect. The results were incredible, everything looked washed clean and was so bright I had to wear sunglasses.
Before I wore specs all the time, now I just need weak magnification to read. It's good to know that some things can get better.
