"I was referred to the substance misuse team in Stairfoot"

About: Barnsley PCT Phoenix Futures / Barnsley drug and alcohol services

(as the patient),

I was referred to the substance misuse team in Stairfoot, Barnsley by my doctor for my herion use, after sometime my worker at S.M.T- stairfoot stopped my prescription.

I had been on my prescription for 40mls of methadone and 30mls of diazepam for 15months.I have been doing really well compared to when I first started on my prescription.

I started on 90mls of methadone and I've been steadily reducing the intake and now I am on 40mls of methadone. I was providing negative drug tests for herion and doing well until my ex worker stopped my prescription.

They told me they had stopped my prescription because I had missed an appointment with my worker.

I had told them weeks before that I had missed that appointment because I had been having money problems as I had just moved into a new house and money was very tight sorting out the bills.I also asked them to make the appointment on my pay-day so I could get to them.

I've had to do a 2week withdrawal from methadone and diazepam because the soonest I could have got on a new prescription was 2weeks. I feel stopping my prescription could have put me into a fit or even killed me and this was not professional what so ever.

If it wasn't for my fiancée, I would have turned back to heroin, but the support from my partner has made me step away from heroin.

In my opinion my ex worker should have handled this situation a lot better.

I have now moved to a new drug misuse service, I will never go back to s.m.t stairfoot. I think its awful how they treat people like this.
