"Excellent ward staff - domestics,..."

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

What I liked

The staff Nurses were extremely helpful and accommodating whilst visiting my father on ward 124 (Orthopeadics). Their care is second to none and nothing appears to onerous for them. - Thankyou to one and all.

What could be improved

However the person - I presume ward clerk (Wearing a mauve uniform, I think, as she had a fleece on over the top of it) - was very terse and unfriendly when I called in to bring my father clean clothes. I know it was out of visiting hours but I was on my way back to Cornwall before the snow arrived in Staffordshire. I had asked the nurse on duty the previous day if it would be Ok to call in briefly.

The other major let down for the hospital is the food - or lack of it!! My Father has been on the ward for a week now and will remain there for at least another week. If the food continues to be dished out in such small quantities and often undercooked I suspect his healing process will be reduced and therefore elongate his hospital stay further. This is surely not cost effective if patients recovery time is lengthened due to lack of nourishment!

The issues are - 1. undercooked jacket potaotoes (small ones at that) 2. Only one piece of meat in a so called stew with a dumpling that was so hard you could have played golf with it! 3. he has discovered that ordering fresh fruit for pudding is preferrable to anything else available. I could go on and list more but I guess you get the gistof how appalling the food is

Anything else?

I would recommend that visitors take refreshments for their loved ones to boost there calorific intake to boost healing!!
