"Totally professional, friendly, caring,..."

About: The Cheshire & Merseyside NHS Treatment Centre

What I liked

Friendly staff who treated me as a human being not a number. All professional staff introduced themselves and kept me fully informed of what was going on. Even had a choice of sandwich after the operation.

The consultant and all of the nurses and theatre staff were efficient, friendly and very professional.

Everything progressed exactly as it was supposed to throughout my stay. Starting at 7.00 am and going home at midday, so much in just 5 hours. With all the pre op checks being done alongside the consultants meeting clearly makes the whole process more time efficient.

The advice from the Physio and the Patient Discharge Information Pack tells me all I need to know and I am following the instructiond carefully. Finally the most unexpected and most impressive action was the nurse who rang me the following day to make sure I was ok. A very small thing but indicative of the professionalism and efficiency of the whole place.

What could be improved

One very small suggestion. Whilst my wife was with me in the Day Ward she needed to go to the toilet which was outside the ward. Getting back into the Ward required her to knock on the door and wait some considerable time before a passing staff member let her in. A temporary pass just for that door only would help rather than have to rely on busy staff to look out for waiting visitors.

Anything else?

This Centre is clearly a centre of excellence that should be replicated throughout the NHS. It clearly shows what can be achieved in both levels of real care and excellence in surgery. It can be done and this is the standard for the rtest of the NHS.
