About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

What I liked

I arrived on the cardiology ward at 8.45am 29/10/09 to be admitted as a day patient and was greeted by one of the senior staff and my treatment was explained to me. By 10am I had seen the doctor, had bloods taken and told the anaesthetist was on his way to explain my procedure. The staff acted very quickly when a elderly lady opposite my bed needed emergency treatment. the staff were very friendly.

What could be improved

Kept informed to what was happening instead of me having to keep asking, causing me to become stressed which did nt help my condion.

Anything else?

Problems arose when I asked about my treatment, I was told there was only one cardiac team on duty in the hospital and they had been put behlnd schedule due to attending the elderly lady (who sadly died) then they were in theatre allafternoon. I finally had my treatment at 4.45pm, While waiting for the anaestetist one of the team members commented that finished at 6pm , what had they all beendopmg brtween 9am and 11am .the operation takesabout twenty minutes, there was only two of us waiting that day so what was the delay. I was told that there was a seriously ill man on anogther ward needing my bed (there was an empty bed opposite me he could have had, even my normally placid husband got very cross.
