"Nursing was fantastic but no attention to basic needs"

About: The Royal Glamorgan Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

A 95 year old mother was referred to the hospital for admission, due to issues with bed space we were directed to the A & E department. We initially waited in the main waiting area for 2 hours before a spare trolley was found for my mum. Then she had to endure a 9 hour wait in the department. Whilst the medical attention she received was good no attention whatsoever was paid to her basic needs. 9 hours on a hospital trolley is not comfortable even worse for a 95 year old, add to this that no drinks or snacks were offered, after 6 hours I had to ask if she could have a sandwich and a hot drink. The advances in nursing practice are fantastic but I feel that there is a very urgent need of returning to basic needs for any person!
