"Single Point of Access Service - Newcastle Community Health"

(as the patient),

Following a few visits to my GP for neck and shoulder pain and being told it was only old age I saw an information leaflet for the Single Point of Access Service at Newcastle General. I rang the number, spoke to a lovely person who put me through to one of the team. The nurse asked me some questions then said she would pass my information on to the Belsay Unit. within 4 weeks i had an appointment at the unit, saw a Consultant and had my medication changed, I also had x-rays taken and had an MRI scan and found I had a trapped disc. I have also had an Occupational Therapist come to my house and provide me with grab rails and a stool to ease my pain and make it easier for me to get in and out of the house. I cannot thank the Single Point of Access Team enough for taking me seriously and not fobbing me off by being ageist but also for also passing me on to the correct team quickly, who attended to my needs. I think this is a marvelous service and I have told all of my friends.
