"Feeling scared after daughter's treatment for diabetes"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Paediatrics

(as a relative),

My lovely daughter became poorly and the doctor told us she had ketones, she is 4 and diabetic. We panicked and we took her to the children's admission.

It was a very very bad experience. They told me she has to stay the night in hospital. She needed to give some blood sample, my daughter never cries when we give her insulin but I can tell you she was in agony when the doctor was inserting the needle and extracting blood. This is of course after he tried with the other hand as well.

I understood we were not in safe hands because there was lack of communication between the staff, lack of proper care, lack of respect and dignity and above all lack of trust.

They made my wife feel like having Munchausen Syndrome, she had to fight for the proper dose of insulin, the nurse did not have a clue and the doctor nowhere to be seen.

In the morning we had an apology from the nurse after they spoke and clarified few things about diabetes, but this time with the specialist team. We are left scared, hurt, but above all glad that we are all back home away from what felt like a cold and cruel place.
