I have been a patient at Guernsey House for some time, I have had my ups and down's but I have been happy with my treatment by Dr's and staff at reception, but my main concern is my key/drug worker.

I feel that they have become more of a Psychiatrist, with me as their patient, than a key/drug worker and I'm not at all happy with this.

I want a key/drug worker who will help me get passed the situation I'm in. In my opinion I am criticized and made to feel I look for reasons to use crack.

I've always said I hate the drug and more than that I need to stay off it to keep my children. So not only do I not want to use and hate the feeling it gives me,I have to do it for many other reasons and it's hard not to use when my partner uses it, even though she has a problem with it and uses it when she thinks she has lost everything.

In my view it does not help when you have a key/drug worker working as a psychiatrist, I have had enough of them involved in my case while I'm working to keep my children at home with their mum and dad.

So please, all I'm asking is for a worker who will give me support, make me feel better in my self when I'm feeling low and not criticise me when I've re-lapsed.

Thanks for your posting about the service at Guernsey House. We really appreciate the positive comments you have made about your treatment here. We were also concerned to read about the difficult time you are having and your comments and worries about your support from your keyworker.

As you know the Patient Opinion site cannot deal directly with individual cases or formal complaints but can help people to raise issues which may be common to a number of individuals and may be of interest to all. I believe that the role of the keyworker is one such very important issue within our service. To what extent the keyworker should be challenging or supportive, or both, and the boundaries of this role are fundamental issues which are increasingly relevant to our service users. This is particularly true where there are also issues such as safeguarding of children, criminal justice considerations and so on, where there may be complex issues around keyworkers having to take on a monitoring role from time to time. The role of the keyworker includes a wide range of help going from practical issues to in depth psychosocial interventions and this will depend on individual circumstances.

Difficulties in this relationship do emerge, we would always want to try and sort these out in the best possible and least damaging way. Therefore I would suggest that if you cannot resolve these issues with your key worker you ask to talk things through with the appropriate manager.

I would be very interested to hear from other service users what has been their experience of key working and what is their view of the key working role.

I do hope that you resolve these issues and are able to move forward with your treatment.
