What I liked
What can you say when people save your life ? I had an unsuspected heart problem and was ambulanced to a&E. Later that day my heart stopped and only due to to perserverance and professionalism of doctors and nurses was I given another chance of life, A few days later I had a permanante pace maker fitted . No amount of money could have provided me with better care or treatment. The cardiac ward was cleaned and well staffed, food was good , and the day staff attentive. We are all human and no one s perfect, but the cardiac doctors, surgons, technicians and nurses got as close as is practical.
I got a lot of attention from a whole bunch of skilled people and am very grateful
What could be improved
I am old so am unfortunatly a regular user of NHS services. There is no doubt that at the sharp end, treatment is pretty good. the 'hands on ' bit is as good as can be found anywhere . But, universaly I have found that the NHS administration is pretty poor and lets the side down massivly.
( I am not talking about spending thousands of pounds on 'Art' when the car park is nothing short of an abandoned farm field and could do with having a few quid spent on it to make it safer, or even usable. Thats just an example of how easy it is to spend some one elses money on personal fancies )
I am talking about the day to day clerical problems, how many consultants dont have your records when you get to see them ? how many wrong appointment dates are given out ?. No private sector company could afford to run in this manner , and I bet the staff doing these jobs hate it too.
Anything else?
Having moaned- I just think that we all like being able to do a good job, and want to take pride in what we do. I think some one is letting a lot of people down by , possibly by lack of training, lack of co-ordination between sections, who knows what ! I think it must rest with poor managment . having said that They saved my life and I feel safe knowing that Broomfield Hospital has some brilliant people there
