"I received an appointment for the..."

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

What I liked

I received an appointment for the radiotherapy department in the Beacon Centre, with the appointment letter I received a lovely booklet explaining all about the Beacon Centre. The leaflet clearly stated that there were some disabled parking spaces,so I thought it would be o/k to drive myself to the centre instead of asking my daughter to take me.Un fortunately when I arrived at the centre I couldn't see any disabled spaces let alone a vacant one.I asked a gentleman if there were any disabled spaces he said there was one.He then asked me if I was going to the radiotherapy section I replied yes as that is what it said on my letter,he said ask at reception and they would give me a permit to park .Unfortunately when my wife showed the receptionist my letter together with my disability badge she was told I wasn't allowed one.I then rang myself from my car and was told the same thing, the only thing they could suggest was to ask my wife to park the car(she doesn't drive)or park in the old building car park and walk from there(I wouldn't be able to walk from there),they then suggested I asked for a porter to wheel me up there in a wheelchair(all the time I can walk a little I am not going in a wheelchair,no disrespect to wheeelchair bound people intended).

The outcome was that I had to cancel my much needed appointment and was upset for the rest of the day.

Come on Musgrove start thinking about these problems before you build a nice new facility.

I am now without treatment for my cancer.after all of this.,talk about the caring profession !!

What could be improved

Simple better parking for not only disabled people but everybody in general and also a bit more concern from the staff

Anything else?

What's the good of this lovely facility if you can't park to get treatment..

Also in the past I have received some very offhand /rude service from the specialists secretary's,they need to understand that that the majority of people contacting them are doing so because they are ill and need some help, not to be treated at the very least in a very unhelpful manner, when they do eventually get through.

We are very sorry that you had a poor experience at Musgrove. We clearly did not communicate well enough.

The car parking spaces are reserved for people who are attending the hospital for a regular radiotherapy appointment. The spaces are very limited and we decided that this was the fairest way to allocate them as patients for radiotherapy attend very regularly and only for a relatively short time.

We are reviewing this and looking to change some parking spaces around the Beacon Centre to be for the use of any patient with a blue badge. We are also producing a leaflet to be given to every patient at The Beacon to ensure our communication is clearer.
