(as a relative),

In Children's Outpatients there aren't any facilities for weighing children who are in wheelchairs. I'm expected to pick him up myself for him to be weighed. There really should be the facilities for this in a large children's hospital.

I took your comments to a recent meeting of the Ambulatory Care Directorate. The hospital is very sorry to hear that you had a difficult experience with having your child weighed. You should certainly not be expected to lift him yourself. We do have hoists in every single clinic room for lifting a child out of a wheelchair and we also have a special tracker hoist in one of the outpatient room if needed. Following this incident, the nursing staff have all been reminded about the use of the hoists.

Also, there are now plans in place to build a new, larger changing room in Outpatients. This will have all hoisting facilities in the one place so patient will not have problems such as the one you experienced. The hospital is waiting for approval for the building work to go ahead - I will contact the person in charge of this to try to get more information for you about the building works.
