"My husband was very unwell and in and..."

What I liked

My husband was very unwell and in and out of Airedale over a period of about five weeks, he was re-admitted twice when he did not seem to be improving after bowel surgery.

The worst encounter was with a nurse on triage, who misunderstood us a few times. The nurse was not as patient as they could have been, when someone is ill enough to enter outpatients in great pain at 7.00am it is not helped by an uncaring attitude from one of the staff. However, after that my husband received care and concern from staff of all levels, from adequate to absolutely wonderful. As an outsider looking in, it is a bit niggling when not all staff give 100% but the ones who do certainly make up for it. My husband has made a slow but complete recovery and is now fit to be henpecked again. I am sending a letter to the Ward to show our gratitude.

What could be improved

Maybe asking the patient/relative when it is possible, to give an honest opinion on staff of all levels, (a confidential and anonymous questionnaire) On my husbands second visit we were very disappointed that the same member of staff was letting the side down, as was another, rather lazy nurse on the ward.

Anything else?

Apart from the above, as a worried visitor I would say that nothing would have worried me had I been going to be admitted except......my husband said the meals were nearly all absolutely appalling, but then he is used to making his own as my cooking is absolutely appalling. Thank you.
