"The intial care and subsequent follow up..."

About: Croydon University Hospital

What I liked

The intial care and subsequent follow up from my consultant and his team in gynae has been exemplary. I have always been dealt with speedily, professionally and sympathetically and they are still doing everything they can to check I am ok and investigate any other areas of concern.

My stay on the ward after my operation was as good as one could hope for - staff were friendly and encouraging and I felt well cared for.

What could be improved

As with everywhere, conditions and care vary from area to area - treatment and consultations in the orthopeadic department often seem very impersonal and you are rarely seen by your initial consultant - I don't experience the same sense of care, continuity or concern in this department.

Nursing staff on Queens 2 during my stay were, in the majority, hard working, patient, caring and I have alot of admiration for what they do, especially when they are so obviously understaffed at times. There were one or two that perhaps don't really like what they have to do and that shows!

Anything else?

Food generally was pretty dire - I ended up only having salad and ice cream as it was the only safe option.

Overall, I have been very pleased and appreciative of the care and treatment I have been, and am continuing, to receive. Like another commentator, I was concerned when I was told I had to have my main operation at Mayday, because of its poor reputation and also the poor treatment I felt my mother had received a few years previously. However, I have nothing but thanks for the way I have been treated this year from all the gynae team and very appeciative of the the thorough follow up.
