"My spinal injured husband in great pain"

About: Edith Cavell Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Peterborough PCT The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

I have been trying for 528 days now to get someone in the NHS to recognise that my husband needs a short stay in a spinal injuries unit to sort out complex interrelated problems he is having.

He needs a total knee replacement, has very severe spasms, very bad left sided spasticity etc etc. He has shown signs of motor function return in his legs which no one is capitalising on, denying him the chance to have a better quality of life.

Stanmore Orthopaedics have now turned down doing his urgent knee replacement. All the GPs suggest is filling him full of diazepam so that he does not know what pain he is in.

I have written letters, emails, made phone calls, wrote to MP and other parliamentarians, been on hunger strike, led protest marches but still no one is listening.

I have been waiting for over a year for carers to appear despite passing the nursing care assessment and being fully funded by the local PCT for continuing care. This is a monumental cock up by the NHS but no one seems to want to sort it.
