"I had a hysterectomy recently on..."

About: Southmead Hospital

What I liked

I had a hysterectomy recently on Cotswold Ward. No cutting, and very pleased with result. Surgeon was brilliant as always - thanks again Mr Mcleod and very careful monitoring afterwards by nurses so would recommend the hospital.

What could be improved

However ........ dirty towels in locker when I arrived. Bought my own anti-bacterial wipes, thank goodness. Beds are inadequate, short and not that comfortable. Bedding had holes in, and only given two flimsy covers. Needed lots of pain relief initially but this meant I went over ten hours without any, having used up my quotient. Luckily, much less pain by then. Had blood taken by doctor who didnt wash her hands before or after. Tended to be told one thing by one person and something else by another. Second night there was so much noise by nurses laughing joking etc in reception it sounded like they were having a party! This stopped by 11pm. But lots of banging of doors during night. No supervision by anyone when having a first shower despite the doors having locks on and not many patients that day. Food just about acceptable.
