"My feelings are that I would not return to this hospital"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was sent to this hospital due to complications because of a previous diagnosed condition. I do not feel that my notes from my local hospital were looked at thouroughly enough, otherwise I suspect I may have recEived care which may well have changed the outcome of this pregnancy.

After attending and expressing my concerns about various things including bleeding, I was made to feel like I was being a bit silly. I was misdiagnosed in the EPAU, and my questions about why specific tests had not been done were ignored.

I cannot comment on why they were not completed after week 6 of pregnancy as I am waiting for answers. There may well be good reasons but I felt I was treated like an idiot all the way through.

My appointments included very long waits, several hours on my first, and then another hour for blood tests. I had long waits in radiology.

I came across various members of staff who were rough with me in examination and appeared to be rushed.

The smoking right outside the hospital is unacceptable, and I was forced to breathe in second hand smoke after I was admitted to ward one for my complications and had been warned I was possibly losing my baby. There was blood on the trolly table in my room. Visitors were using the toilets in ward one and leaving disgusting messes. I was supposed to be avoiding infection.

After the birth and death of my beautiful little girl I was left feeling shocked, afraid and horrified at what had just happened. No one had explained it to me properly.

After the first night in delivery we seemed to be forgotten about. Again I asked questions which were not answered. The turnover of staff was frequent and confusing. We walked out the day I was supposed to be discharged feeling uncared for. I have heard nothing from the hospital other than the contact I have made with PALS since this happened 3 weeks ago.

The midwives in ward one and in delivery were all kind and respectful with us, they made the situation just about bearable.
