"Concerns about my bladder scan"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

My CT scan was completed 10 days following TURBT procedure. Whilst according to the consultant this is not unusual as 90% of patients are scanned following as opposed to prior, the scan did confirm no presence of abnormal cells elsewhere, but the scan re the bladder was unclear and inconclusive.

The procedure of the scan in my opinion was flawed as a catheter was in place and no consideration of this was taken into account - because the bladder was not distended by water drank immediately prior to scan - but the staff were made aware of the presence of the catheter.

At a meeting with the doctor following the scan and the MDTM, the doctor voiced the opinion that we were unfair in questioning or indeed in raising any queries that the family of 4 (wife & 2 daughters) who were present raised. Indeed the doctor said they felt that we were aggressive and quickly in my opinion concluded our meeting.

My family and self were attempting to discover as to whether or not the issues re the scan had affected in any way the result and/or prognosis. I do not feel that under the circumstances we were aggressive, indeed if by asking questions, which were asked in a normal calm manner, we were to be labelled as such, then I would have terminated the interview/meeting myself.

The outcome of this meeting left questions unanswered at the time and created a period of unneccessary stress until we had the opportunity to meet with a different doctor who from the outset was clear, patient and answered all our concerns/queries.

I was sorry to read that you had an unsatisfactory experience. Clearly it is not possible to comment on your clinical treatment on the basis of what is written here, but if you wanted me to look further into the issues you raise I would be happy to do so on receipt of your contact details.

I was pleased to read that the second doctor was clear, patient and answered your concerns and queries.
