After a serious fall which knocked him out, my elderly relation was taken by ambulance to A&E where after 5 hours they glued his head and said bring him back if signs of being confused etc., we had explained that he was already confused, he didnt even know where he lived. They didnt do a scan, which I now know should have been a must on an elderly patient. Two days (Monday) later we took him back A&E again at 10.15am, eventually saw a doctor, eventually got a CT scan, then left in A&E for hours with no attention, just sitting in a side ward wondering what was going on. After 9 hours we had had enough and created big time (already stressed out and didnt need this) they finally started to monitor him and put fluid into him. At 9.40pm approx finally taken to specialist hospital in Romford. On the Tuesday he had to have emergency operation which saved his life. If he had had the scan on Saturday evening they would have seen that he had a bleed and operation would have not have been quite so serious/life threatening. The staff were really busy, but this case was not treated with the emergency that it should have been. He could have lost his life because a serious head injury was left for so long.
