What I liked
The doctors who attended my mother in the Kent Ward in the Atkinson Morley wing were extremely good. We always felt involved in their decision making. It took away much of the insecurity of her hospital stay.
I can only say that they were professional and thorough, just what I would have expected from the medical profession.
What could be improved
Communication between the nursing staff and the patients/carers.
There were nurses who you really had to admire for their dedication and commitment to their profession but there were also ones who left you wondering.
A nurse told us that my mother could walk to the toilet without assistance when it clearly stated in her medical report that she had to be accompanied. That a scheduled operation was cancelled and I was not informed which is not as bad as my mother having the operation and me not being informed either.I had to find out when I arrived for the afternoon visit. Or that nurses give visiting family members information not in accordance with what the doctors had said.
It all worked out well in the end, so.....
Anything else?
The good ones are a credit to your hospital.
For the less,look and learn.
