"A bad experience of care at Southmead Hospital"

About: Bristol Southmead Hospital

(as the patient),

I had a total hip replacement at Southmead Hospital and was subject to constant commentary from some of the staff and a few of the patients in the ward, which I believe was racist.

This went as far as on the actual wound the bandaging was very thick and I repeatedly asked the nurse to do something about the pain. She insisted it was normal and refused me for 2 days to see the doctor.

After those 2 days I myself realised that the bandaging was what was causing all the pain. I insisted then that it be removed and the theatre male nurse came in and did it. Pain gone.

One and a half vials of morphine in two days due to this. This nurse said don't worry, normal.

I am a European (Western) who has been in the UK 14 years. I did not come here planning to get sick. I would sooner find myself in Hell than be treated in that hospital again.
