"I love City Hospital, having always had..."

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus

What I liked

I love City Hospital, having always had really positive experiences there. It mainly comes down to the fact that the staff there are always so lovely. When you walk in, you are welcomed by people who seem to be genuinely pleased to see you and who are actually interested in providing excellent care.

I was treated by the Burns Unit, a few years ago, and received absolutely superlative care from them. I went back there early in 2009 for gynae problems and was treated by them right up until my hysterectomy, which had to be carried out at Kings Mill.

My Consultant at City Hospital was lovely, all the staff were lovely and everyone was highly efficient. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, City cannot do non-cancerous hysterectomies. Since I will not have anything whatsoever to do with Queen's Medical Centre, I had to give up my lovely Consultant at City and transfer to Kings' Mill, where I also received excellent treatment.

It is worth noting that my Consultant at City Hospital, and my Consultant at Kings Mill, worked marvellously together and managed the handover of my care without a hitch.

What could be improved

More funding needs to be given to City Hospital, so that it can provide the full range of operations and so that people who don't want to go to QMC don't have to go to hospitals a long way from home, as I did.

I also think that an A&E Department should be re-established at City, for the same reasons.

Anything else?

I worry a lot that, since the amalgamation of the two hospitals, there is a real risk of the culture of the QMC being transferred to City Hospital. I hope very much that this does not happen. At the present time, I find the staff and the atmosphere at City Hospital just so, so lovely and I hope the Hospital fights to hang on to its high standards, rather than letting QMC's rock-bottom standards pollute it.
