"My mother has been admitted to the..."

About: Kingston Hospital

What I liked

My mother has been admitted to the Medical Assessment Centre several times over the last few years. I have witnessed changes - for the best. We were met by staff who all said hello then four staff - yes four! came and moved mum across into a bed with an air mattress already to go. Mum was made comfy and the nurse looking after mum asked very thourough questions. What struck me was the consistency of care not just the odd good nurse as you read about in the papers but the team of nurses, health care assisstants, doctors and social workers were amazing. There were several special moments the ginger matron helped mum with the crossword, the health care assisstant who helped mum have a shower and the chatty porter who took mum for a scan all made her feel special. The last time we went to the Medical Assessment Centre two years ago it seemed chaotic and not a very warm envrionment. Things have changed so much that Mum keeps saying she wants to go back for a holiday!

What could be improved

Mum went up to Hamble ward things were different to the Medical Assessment Centre when we got there the staff seemed indifferent to our arrival, they could learn a lot from the team on the Medical Assessment Centre.

Kingston Hospital needs to rebuild the Medical Assessment Centre there are holes in the floors outside the lifts. The staff have to work in a very dark area.

Anything else?

Mum loved the food especially on the Assessment ward when she always got her first choice and managed to get extra biscuits of the Matron.
