"I attended the maternity unit for my son..."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

What I liked

I attended the maternity unit for my son and daughter-in-laws' scan.

The staff were great and very friendly, They took as much time as possible to explain what they were doing in clear english. (My daughter-in-law does not speak english very well).

What could be improved

The waiting times!!!! Seen 2 hours after the appointment. Could the hospital add 5 minutes to each appointment time slot? It might cut down on the wait.

Also this is Russells Hall so I have to mention the car parking availability and price. Please try to sort this out. the cars parked all along the main road can make getting into the hospital a nightmare.

Anything else?

The care was good, the dept was clean, the staff friendly but you tend to forget the positive after you have been sitting with other patients who are also having to wait for a long time after their appointment time.

Response from Russells Hall Hospital

Thank you for your positive comments regarding our maternity unit. These will be forwarded to the department.

Unfortunately due to the complex nature of pregnancy some consultations do take longer than others and an unacceptable delay does occasionally occur. Apologies that you were not kept informed of the progress of the clinic when you attended.

Occasionally the ultrasound scan result may have an unexpected outcome. In order to provide the best care and service the allotted scan time may run over. Every effort is made to keep to appointment times but complications do arise that prevent this from happening.

A recent audit has highlighted that the majority of waiting times in clinic are acceptable, however we will be doing some work to improve these times further.

We now have an Outpatients Management Board that is dedicated to improving the service for our patients. Your comments will be passed to the board for them to see.
