About: Barnsley Hospital

What I liked

I liked pretty much everything about my visit to Barnsley Hospital! I was in the labour ward having my first child (Id never been in hospital before) and stayed in for two days. Right from the start I was very impressed with all aspects of the hospital - The staff were very patient and helpful right from the cleaners to the midwives and doctors they were all happy and helpful - Even late at night when I was asking trivial questions they couldnt have helped any more!

The ward was extremely clean all of the time and cleaners were always in the rooms. The food was amazing and on time every day.

The midwives were on call when ever I needed them and they were never funny about being called, they were always clear about what was happening and the care of my newborn child was outstanding.

Mainly I was supported with my decisions (Such as not to continue breastfeeding) and made to feel comfortable at all times. Thank you so much to all the staff on the labour ward! : )

What could be improved

Minor points on this one...

There was cotton wool, towels and other items for patients to use which I was unaware of and only found out by watching others use it, I would have felt more comfortable if it had been confirmed that I was okay to use it.

During labour I was unable to have an epidural but wasnt told I couldnt use the gas and air when pushing, in order to brace myself for this I would have prefered to have known this in advance.

Being discharged from the hospital took a long time as I had to wait for a doctor to sign me off who kept getting called away, the staff were however very apologetic for this delay.

Anything else?

I can only speak about the labour ward at Barnsley Hospital but can say in my experience that it is a fantastic ward run very well by all the staff - Thank you! : )
