"My experience at this hospital was on..."

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

What I liked

My experience at this hospital was on the Holywell suite where i went for a day gynaecology procedure. The staff were very friendly, helpful & reassuring as i was very worried. As soon as I arrived on the ward I was shown to my bed & given a gown & the nurse waited while I got changed & then took all my obs straight away. They told me that i was 2nd on the list & the time the consultant was starting with the first patient. Within 15 mins of the nurse doing my obs the anaesthetist came & went through his questions. Whilst waiting, another pt came to the nurses station and told the nurses he had bled in the toilet & he had dripped blood all over the floor. The nurses / HCA's immediately cleaned the floors & cleaned the toilet. I went to the toilet shortly afterwards & it was completely clean and there were no traces of blood or dirt at all which i was very pleased with. Each of the bays were full with patients but the staff still managed to attend to everyone & keep everyone happy & i was very impressed at how smoothly everything went even with the amount of patients that were coming and going. It really was busy but the staff were still very polite, helpful & reassuring. When the first pt went down to see my consultant the nurses let me know & then shortly afterwards i was taken down to the reception surgery room. There was a short wait here but one of the HCA's waited with me & talked to me the whole time to reassure me. Then i was taken to the operating theatre where the anaesthetist was with the consultant. The consultant asked me questions to make sure I knew what was happening & to get my consent again for what was being done & then the anaesthetist put my cannula in & started to give me the anaesthetic. Then all I remember is waking up in the recovery room! I was soon taken back to the ward where they gave me toast & a drink, rang my mum, did all my obs, removed my canula, gave me my pain pack explaining everything & then i was home in 2 hours after procedure!

What could be improved

The level of care received was outstanding - nothing I experienced needs to be improved.

Anything else?

Thanks to all the staff who work so very hard in the Holywell Day Suite!

Thank you for your kind comments. I will certainly ensure they are passed to the staff. I hope you are making a good recovery. Sarah Turner-Saint, Head of Communications
