"I went into a sort of dream state"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I am on Tegretol 200mg twice per day. When I had to go to Diana, Proncess of Wales Hospital for an operation to remove a polyp, I had to stop my medication a few days before.

I had an anaesthetist in the room before my op ask why I took Tegretol. He asked if I had ever had 'fits'. I said 'no'. So he told me to throw them away.

I stayed in one night. On the second day I was sick all day and couldn't keep water down. I was discharged after waiting until after tea-time. On my own and in a taxi to a home I live alone.

I had an episode where I went into a sort of dream state. I couldn't even text or phone to get help at the time I needed help. I sort of went dyslexic.

The next day a neighbour had to help me by going to the shop with me to get shopping. He told me to see a doctor on a Saturday.

So I phoned up on Monday and my GP told me to just take the full dose of medication again instead of 'no Tegretol'. He said rubbish to what I'd been told in the pre-op room.
