I am very much disappointed in the way the crisis team at the Doncaster Mental Health Unit treated me. I have bipolar disorder and was due to go to the psychiatric ward for assessment but was at home with my mother waiting for a phone call from the ward before going in.
Without a phone call or warning, I believe the crisis team called the police and they came to my home and carried me to hospital. I don't understand why we had no phone call asking us to come but rather getting the police to drag me out of my house.
When we got to the hospital, they kept me in the mental health assessment unit for what seemed like forever before being taken to a residential ward.
Whilst in the ward, I was given nothing to do, the environment was frustrating and there was no sort of entertainment to keep you company. It appeared the nurses I saw wouldn't look at you, let alone speak to you.
When I asked for something to do, I was given picture of flowers to colour in, why would you give me pictures to colour in? I am not a child.
Before I was taken to the ward, I was searched by a man without any explanations. The female nurses were never available so I had to ask the male ones for personal items such as sanitary towels.
I feel very disrespected and my rights breached. I don't think anyone would go into that ward and come out a changed person because the atmosphere in there does not resolve any situation but rather makes it worse.
I felt it was quite disgusting the way it treats its patients. You'd think they'd be more caring and supportive.
"I was disappointed with the way I was treated."
