"Good care but poor comunication at RDE Hospital"

About: Devon Access and Referral Team (DART) Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was supposed to be going for an X-ray in August but I managed to get a cancellation slot in July. This was great, so speedy.

I had a chat with a doctor when I first got there, I was taken for an X-ray and then sat in the waiting area for 45 minutes. Well, I sat in one area for 20 minutes until another nurse told me to sit elsewhere, which I did for another 25 minutes.

Eventually, a nurse came out to me and told me I should have been told to go home. I was sure the original doctor had said we would look at the x-ray results together.

I've not yet had my results, I have no idea when I'll get them. I phoned the surgery but had no response.

I am mainly complimentary about the services, I have to admit that I liked the system of booking my own appointment through the DART although I do like to have my doctors recommendations of where to go and who to see.

All in all, my care was good but communication could have been better.

Dear Sailor43

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and let us know about your experience. We appreciate all feedback and we try our best to use the information to improve the system where necessary. I am pleased to hear that overall you feel the service you have received has been good.

I am sorry to hear that there was a bit of a mix up which seemed to have left you waiting for longer than necessary at the hospital. It can take a little time for X-ray results to get back to your GP and I would hope that you were given some idea of how long this would take. If you have been waiting longer than you were advised then I realise that this can be a concern.

If you want any assistance in future with this please contact our DART helpline on 01626 883888 and give them some more details and we can follow it up for you with your GP practice.
