What I liked

There was alot of cleaners present and the A&E staff.

What could be improved

There is no comunication between doctors and departments. I had to organise a consultant myself as the doctors lied and said they had when I queried they hadn't!!!

My boy friend was first admitted after his GP said to on thursday 29th July. After 7 hours he was finally placed in EAU. The following morning he was seen my various doctors and had to have a scan and lumberpuncture, these came back ok and was told he had to stay over the weekend to see a neurologist as they did not know what was wrong with him. After a lumberpuncture you are supposed to lay flat for 6 - 8 hours, no one told us this and after 2 he was moved to a main ward which caused him not be flat. He was discharged the next day by the ward doctor and given painkillers but had not seen the neurologist. After spending 1 night at home he had to be re-admitted to A&E as his symptoms were becoming worse by the hour. He clearly was in no state to be sitting waiting in reception and luckily a kind nurse noticed this after 45mins and found him a bed in majors to lay down. After going through everything again he was told he had to see a neurologist and was moved to a ward in the middle of night. In the morning he caught a member of staff about to throw his tablets in the bin! We found this member of staff to be very rude through out the whole experience and had a lack of people skills. However 3 days later he still had not seen a neurologist. When enquiring to a nurse what was happening with this we was told the doctor had put a request in. Unsatisfied I took it upon myself to confirm this and when talking to neurology they had no idea of my partner as no request had been put in. I took advice from P.A.L.S (very helpful) and they helped to arrange to see a neurologist the very same day!!! It turns out the second admission was a result of a complication from the lumberpuncture where he had not been laying flat!

This all could have been avoided if the wards took the advice from A&E instead of sending people home too early.

Anything else?

I would appreciate if someone could contact me to discuss this as it should not be left to the patient to organise their own consultants, the ward doctors should have done something about it sooner!
