"The last time I had stayed at Tameside..."

About: Tameside General Hospital

What I liked

The last time I had stayed at Tameside Hospital overnight, or to have a procedure, was almost ten years ago.

I regret to say that the experience I had at that time was so poor as to make me fearful of using Tameside Hospital again for anything other than attending consultations.

However, today I attended the Endoscopy Unit for a Colonoscopy and things have changed a lot.

Although very crowded, the Reception Area was processed very efficiently by the admin staff, and before too long I was shown to my trolley in the Ward, which appeared to be spotlessly clean.

Everything was explained to me very clearfully and all the nursing staff were very friendly and helpful.

I am a particularly difficult patient to deal with, but nothing was too much trouble for the nurses or any of the staff.

My Doctor was superb as usual, and before I knew it I was being served with the most delicious tea and toast after my procedure.

Staff had already contacted my wife to pick me up and so a little after 4 hours of setting foot on the premises, I was leaving the building with all necessary medication and papers.

I should point out that I have had several colonoscopies before, but all of them have been at a private hospital. However, the treatment I had this morning under my Dr and team was the best I have ever had. Faster, less stressfull and much more productive.

Please pass on my appreciation to the unit.

What could be improved

Need more space in the Reception Area

Anything else?

The nurse who gave me my enema deserves extra special mention, as they were so kind and helpful in doing this for me.

Thank you for posting these comments – I will certainly ensure they are brought to the attention of the staff involved.

I am pleased to note that your experience at Tameside Hospital today was the best you have ever had and that you feel things have changed a lot since your last attendance.

I am also very pleased to tell you that when the new hospital facilities open in November this year, the Endoscopy Unit will have a much larger, purpose built reception area.

With best wishes
