"Is Lincolnshire Link interested in mental health care?"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I am very disappointed in the Link in Lincolnshire, particularly their attitude towards mental health problems.

A group of us involved in mental health - service users, advocacy services, involvement organisation - met with the Link. They held the meeting in their office which was not reachable by public transport, they had a radio playing, photo copiers printing, phones ringing the whole time the meeting took place. Not the most ideal of surroundings.

We asked them if we could form a permanent mental health Link sub group as service user/ carer involvement in mental health is very poor in Lincolnshire and we thought this was what the Link was for. It took them 5 months to get back to us and tell us that they would not be having a permanent mental health sub group. If we had any issues we wanted them to consider they would look into them individually.

They were therefore asked if they could look into the fact that services in mental health in Lincolnshire seem to be rationed. We backed this request up with evidence that people were being limited to six sessions only and then discharged regardless of whether they were better or not. We asked this three months ago and still have had no response. They only seem interested in looking at areas brought up by their own executive and are not interested in mental health at all.

Surely it is just manners to deal with requests promptly and answer quickly. After all I thought the Link was for the community not just its own executive.

Dear fifi2, Whilst Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are keen to work with the local LINk, you will have to raise your specific concerns with them as to how they conduct their business as this is something we cannot comment on. Their contact details are:- LINk Shaw Trust 11 Roman Way South Hykeham LINCOLN LN6 9UH 01522 705190 Or you could e-mail them We do however, anticipate a positive relationship with LINk regarding mental health services and our understanding is that they will react to issues raised by service users. We are confident that if they had evidence of people being discharged too early they would pick this up with us so that they could respond. To date we have not been contacted with that evidence. In the meantime if individuals are able to provide specific details regarding any difficulties with their care and treatment from Primary Care and Psychological Therpies they can contact Carol Brady, General Manager for Psychological Therapies & Primary Care on 01522 518600

I think what is annoying is the length of time the Link take to respond, they took 5 months to respond to me the first time we met with them and I still have not had a response 3 months after contacting them again. Surely it would just be manners to let us now how they are progressing with our request.

Evidence provided is, numerous people complaining of limited sessions on this Patient Opinion Site, surely they can not all be wrong.

Minutes of a Linking Voices meeting where I believe a member of Trust staff is minuted as stating you can only offer 6 sessions.

Results of a Linking Voices survey where numerous individuals have stated they only got six sessions and results of a survey done by the PCT where yet again one of the most common complaints is that people only get 6 sessions.

It is such a recurring complaint, something is going wrong somewhere.
