"Treat the family as well as the patient"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

My son had a life saving operation (for the second time) this week to remove an aggressive tumour above the brain stem. Whilst I cannot fault the standard of care in ward N1 I am seriously concerned that despite numerous requests for information - as his next of kin - 3 days after the operation nobody has yet bothered to contact me either at the hospital when my wife and I visit, or at home, despite a number of promises to do so.

I am sure they are all very busy and would not question anyone's abilities. However, as the old adage says, they need to treat the family as well as the patient. Has no one the time to make a 5 minute call to relieve the stress of not knowing whether our son will survive?

Pretty shabby.
