"Both my partner and other friends have..."

What I liked

Both my partner and other friends have been in this hospital and I have experience of care in the neuro, cardiac and orthopedic wards. The food is very good. Sometimes they run out of choices but the patients look forward to meals. The consultant care is extremely good and the staff on the intensive care ward were excellent. A nice long visiting hours time limit. The manor of the ward staff is brisque but friendly and efficient and they have so very much to do. It should be realised that this is a 'hub' type hospital where results are achieved quickly. They are very good at not rushing patients out of the wards as soon as they need the bed. My partner made a return stay, some time after the first one, and the staff were really 'up to speed' on his situation and past records. So far, we have had a good experience there. You do feel in very capable hands and have no doubt about the skill of the surgeons.

What could be improved

Contact between departments and other hospitals. When someone has to take medication relating to another illness during time spent in for an opp. The medical doctor (not the specialist) shold be able to go to the appropriate department and make sure they understand how this medication should be given. We had to contact the consultant for the other condition ourselves and she had to come to the ward to sort this out.

Not enough advice to the hospital that was preparing the patient to come up to St Georges.

Our local hospital did not know how far to take the preparation, re: bed allocation and it was not their fault.

Parking...we had a £5.00 parking pass for the week at our local hospital but this is not offered at

St Georges and travel there can be difficult if you live out of the area. It really should be given for those not in the local transport area.

There should be visual information about the times that doctors rounds/bloods are taken.

You have to ask for every single bit of info, particularly about the parient being released and this can be tricky when you live a distance away.

Anything else?

The important thing is that those people that I have experienced staying in St Georges, do feel safe and comfortable there and that's what matters.
