What I liked

July 28th 2010

Dear Manager,

After a recent stay in 2 North A (PITU unit?) and a day in 2 North B, I would like to thank the outstanding nursing staff.

Unfortunately I do not have the name of the first nurse I want to thank: they were on duty on the morning of Tuesday, 6th July. They noticed I wanted to move to some quiet space as I was nervous of having a canulla fitted - I am so grateful to them for noticing.

I want to thank one nurse for her wonderful warmth and good care, the night nurse for his kindness and great sensitivity, another nurse for his bounding cheerfulness, another for her calm friendly efficiency, another for her lovely bedside manner, and the cleaner for her empathy,

But most of all, I need to thank the sister for her amazing support, her attention to detail, and her commitment to her patients. She helped me get through my fears, and bent over backwards to make it better. She made me feel safe when I was in a vulnerable position. My gratitude cannot be measured. Her dedication to her profession is striking. She is a gifted nurse.

I am proud of the NHS, always have been, but after my stay in Ward 2 North/ Endocrine unit, such pride is magnified tenfold. I know they work terribly long hours, and yet somehow they keep going day after day courageously. I thank you with all my heart.

What could be improved

Only one thing:

ideally, it would be preferable to have canullas fitted in a private space or with curtains pulled - but since no other patients asked for it, I didnt want to make a fuss. When one is scared, it is hard to have such procedures in front of other patients.

But this is not a criticism, just an observation of what would be ideal!

Anything else?

None - its all in the letter above

Thank you for your kind comments. We have passed your message on to 2 North. We are happy to hear that the staff you encountered treated you with kindness and empathy. Thank you also for your comment about fitting canullas in a more private space - it is always good to get constructive feedback as it helps us to make improvements so our services can be even better.
