"Prompt, informative and attentive..."

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

What I liked

Prompt, informative and attentive service; cheerful, tolerant, well trained staff with an assured, professional bearing. A shrewd, experienced and alert nurse-practitioner in A&E ensured I got the proper (and quite elaborate) treatment. I was impressed also by the way the staff dealt with some difficult patients: respectfully involving their consent, but also firm and assertive.

What could be improved

Nothing very noticeable.

Anything else?

I disapprove of the 'Choices' rhetoric on this website, the focus-group idea that I might 'recommend the RHCH to my friends', and all other attempts to introduce market values and attitudes into the NHS. While the RHCS does indeed have an enviable reputation, it's a local service that I need, not choose. It's not a restaurant or a supermarket: the standards should be universal and the highest attainable everywhere.
