What I liked

My husband and I first went to Royal London Hospital A&E when I was pregnant and bleeding. After registration, we were promptly seen by the A&E staff. The nurses were very sympathetic, efficient and caring. They took my samples fast and got results back fast. After explaining the results, they quickly referred me to EGU for a scan on that very morning. We were impressed with the cleanliness of both A&E and EGU units, the quality of the staff, their efficiency and most of all their kindness to us at all times. We were also kept informed of what steps were coming and why they were taking the steps they did with our situation.

A few days later, we returned as the pregnancy was miscarrying. Again we received immediate attention from a very busy 4am in the morning A&E unit. They were under a lot of pressure due to high numbers of injured drunks surrounded by police. But we only had a short wait for a bed and soon after were seen to by a very friendly nursing staff who was even faster in getting all our particulars, tests, samples, results and getting us seen to by a specialist doctor.

After being seen by the doctor in A&E, we were quickly moved to Rachel Ward, where sympathetic, kind, attentive and efficient staff (both nurses and doctors) quickly arranged for a side room for us. They also arranged a scan with EGU. The nurse in EGU explained our miscarriage to us in a most sympathetic manner, giving us both comfort and hope during our most desperately devastating time.

Whilst it has been a tough time for us personally, the many kindnesses, efficiency, the sympathetic and cheerful care we received helped us immeasurably. There are no words to describe our gratitude to all the staff (nurses, doctors, cleaners and caterers) who have given such good care and attention on both occasions.

Our many thanks to all those in these 3 departments who have been so wonderful to us.

What could be improved

This hospital is old and the ward could use some air conditioning during the summer heat. But the care is superb.

Anything else?

All the staff are outgoing, warm and sympathetic characters. This, combined with their efficiency, competence, skills and professionalism, is the foundation of the high level of service they provided to us. They do not treat you like idiots, burdens or statistics but like patients whom they give gentle individual care and attention to. These 3 departments have excellent coordination between them. The Royal London Hospital is very fortunate to have such great teams in these 3 departments.

With regards to your feedback about the hospital environment, we’d like to reassure you that the new hospital being built at The Royal London will replace many of our existing ageing buildings, and will have far better temperature control for the comfort of our patients. The first patients will be cared for in our new buildings in early 2012.
