What I liked

How quick and efficient all the staff in a&e were, they were not only looking after my daughter who was suffering a major brain haemorrhage but they looked after me too. They made sure I was constantly being updated with what was happening and that I understood what they were doing. When my husband and mother arrived they ensured one of the doctors talked them through what had happened/was happening before they went into see my daughter.

What could be improved

Once my daughter was stable she was sent up to friston ward, and the anaethatist insisted on having some emergency drugs kept close by in case she had another seizure, they were just left in a syringe drawed up ready to use on the bed side, this was fine whilst she was being continually monitored but they were left there for 24 hours by which time my daughter had regained consciousness and could have given herself a lethal injection!

Anything else?

Communications between hospitals could be improved, my daughter had a ct scan at Eastbourne, and wanted it compared with a scan previously done at Great Ormond Street, they sent a taxi to great ormond street to retrieve the previous scan. When it arrived the doctors had to admit they didn't know what they were looking at as was a very rare condition and ended up sending her latest scan via taxi to great ormons street for the doctors there to look at, this was what I had requested happened immediately, but the eastbourne doctors didn't want to be told by a parent that they wouldn't understand what they were looking at!
