What I liked
Speed that my operation was scheduled following my initial appointment. Thoroughness of the pre screening check . Facilities that felt more like a private hospital .
What could be improved
The way I was treated on the day of my operation by the staff on the day ward.
I had requested and it was agreed that I could have a spinal anaesthetic the words of the anaesthetist at my pre assessment appointment was " Of course your wish is my command"
When I was admitted I was told I was in the wrong theatre slot for a spinal and then I was asked repeatedly by at least 3 members of staff over a period of 30 minutes "why" in a way I felt was trying to "push " me to change my mind.Telling me I would not be able to go home that night really upset me.
I lay in my bed listening to the staff talking about me.I was on my own and this added to my stress levels ( I am a nervous patient hence the request for a spinal) In the end I was given a spinal and the staff seeing my upset apologised but I had expected more based on the comments I had seen on the web site.
The other point I would make is about the administration. To receive a discharge letter that states my surgery was on my left foot when it is actually my right seems fairly basic.Thank goodness I was awake for the surgery.
"Speed that my operation was scheduled ..."
