"Poor service over repeat prescriptions at Harehills Surgery"

About: Leeds PCT

(as the patient),

I feel that I received very poor service over repeat prescriptions at Harehills Corner GP Surgery - I am on medication for high blood pressure, which I need to take daily for the rest of my life. This surgery offered email repeat prescription order. Great! Easy to do and simple as I live 20 minutes from the surgery and don't drive (the walk is good for me though). I emailed my repeat script 48 hours before pick up (as advised) phoned to check if it was ready - NO! the the receptionist was not in this week. She didn't have a return email to say she was away so I did not realise the fact. Needed my medication as I'd run out - so asked if I could come down to the surgery to get the prescription - was answered with a no because they were closing early - come down on Monday and you will get one.

Monday arrived - had no medication all weekend - phoned and the girl that answered the phone said come down and we will get it for you - 20 mins later I arrived at the surgery - was told No prescription!! I have got to wait another 48 hours - weds at the earliest as the doctor is busy. I explained that I'd been waiting for a whole week already and can't wait longer - the receptionist was totally unconcerned and reminded me that rules were rules and she was new and didn't even come from this area - I am fuming! was thinking of going to A&E to try to get some kind of service but realise that it would not be fair on the doctors who work in that department so will wait until I can get my repeat script from my surgery. Although I do feel unwell - my body is swelling and retaining water because I don't have my daily medication, it is something I can live with for a few more days.

Also for this surgery seems to have a lot of locum doctors - the last 2 experiences of them were bad too, for my medication reviews - the first I spoke to was Italian and spoke little English. The 2nd was African and told me that he didn't understand English ways.

I am sorry to hear of the problems you have experienced with regard to repeat prescriptions at your surgery. The PCT has shared your concerns with the Practice Manager at the Surgery who has informed us that they now have new staff in post that have been fully trained and are aware of the 48hr rule for repeat prescriptions.

Unfortunately, the practice still needs to use locum doctors due to both sickness and vacancies. However, the practice is doing their utmost to use locums that are familiar with the practice.

Thank you for your comments.
