"I was cold while waiting to go down to surgery"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham to the day surgery unit to be treated for Gynae Polyps and to have a D&C (dilation and curettage).

I was dealt with promptly and was only there for the morning.

The day surgery is either a morning or afternoon appointment. All the morning surgery turn up at 9.00am, get changed, are seen to and then sit in the tip up armchairs in a waiting room. If you are last on the list you sit there until 12.45pm. I was cold whilst sitting in my dressing gown in the seating area waiting to be taken down to theatre. They tell you to take books to read. It is also the place where people come back to, to finish waking up, have toast and tea before going home. I was fine, but, the lady beside me had never had a GA before and sat getting more and more worried as the morning wore on.

The nurses were very good, but short staffed and all working with coughs and colds. I heard the senior nurse make up a list for staff for the next day, she just had it covered, but said if one person called in sick, that was everything up the shoot. Some of the staff should have been off work, getting better themselves.
