I have recently joined this hospital after moving to the area. I cannot fault the care I have received. Although I think more time, effort and money needs to be put in to supporting patients with secondary cancer. It has become very clear to me that there is absolutely no support in place. I have been assigned a specialist nurse, who I thought was there to help and support me, if and when needed.
However I was recently going through an anxious time and so had emailed my nurse a few times, re results and other issues. I was then sat at an appointment and once the appointment was over, I was told by my specialist nurse, that I shouldn't contact them so frequently as they just don't have the time to reply, instead I should try and access other support? So I have to question why we have specialist nurses assigned?
Having and trying to live with Secondary Cancer is hard enough, without being made to feel that you are being too demanding. I like to think I only ask for help when I really need it, but clearly the idea is for people to go it alone and leave the nurses to deal with, just sitting in appointments offering a caring hand to people with primary cancer! If you have secondary cancer at this hospital, I'm afraid it seems you are on your own!
