What I liked

The Neuro wards were very white and very clean, and all staff looked clean and well-presented.

The staff were mainly very nice, and spoke to me when they came on shift, and most of them had a sense of humour too! Which helps, even in such tense situations.

The food was okay, not fantastic but then it is not a 5-star hotel so I was not expecting great things; although I was surprised by some of the food tasting pretty good.

What could be improved

It would have been useful to have been given a small notebook and pen, for either myself or someone to make a note of each consultant and doctor etc who spoke to me, and to note what they had said and when.

I had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage and had an op to coil an aneurysm in the brain, and although my memory has been pretty good, I cannot recall any of the names of people who spoke to me!

I was in for 3 days post-op with no visitors due to adverse weather conditions so was unable to obtain a notebook myself.

Anything else?

I was blue-lighted to Charing Cross on 17th Dec 09 for an op on Friday 18th Dec, and spent a day and a half in ITU, then a day and a half in HDU then a further 3 days in a less intensive ward. I found the majority of staff and the care provided was really good, and some of the staff were absolutely brilliant.

My op went well and my recovery has been good so far with very little side-effects so I would recommend the Neurosciences department.
