"A&E at Homerton Hospital "

About: Homerton University Hospital

(as the patient),

I visited A&E at Homerton Hospital in mid December 2007. I had injured myself by falling down some steps in icy weather and I wanted to get myself checked out in case I had caused any damage to my back or other bones. I really didn't want to go to A&E as I anticipated a lengthy wait.

I arrived at about 10.15am and after a few minutes waiting for a receptionist I was checked in and began my wait. Within 10 minutes I was seen by a nurse who was fantastic (I wish I had noted her name). She carried out preliminary checks, shared her own icy-fall story and dosed me up with a large pain killer. She checked the patient list and tried her best to estimate the waiting time for me.

Back to the waiting room for me. It was starting to get quite busy and I again feared I would be there for a long time. However, after about 20 minutes I was called and thoroughly checked over by a physiotherapist. Luckily there was nothing broken and I was then free to go home. The whole visit was completed in less then an hour.

The speed of the service was impressive. The nurse and physio were fantastic. The waiting area was clean and the so was the toilet. All in all a very effective service.
