I was referred here by my GP after 3 months of extreme head pain (my GP assumed migraine). My local hospital is Queen’s Hospital but I don’t like to be seen there so they referred me to Homerton.
I was seen within 3 weeks for my first consultant appointment. It was a 2 hour wait as the Neurologist was running late, but luckily I had nothing to do that afternoon. The Neurologist saw me for a good 30 minutes going through my problem, asking questions and giving me little mobility tests for my balance and coordination. I was booked into an MRI brain scan the following week and I was seen instantly in no queue and had the results sent to me in the post a week later. I saw the consultant a week after the MRI scan (I was seen with only a 5 minute wait) and they gave me a medical trial to try for a month and gave me a follow up. The medicine didn’t work so I came back and they gave me another trial for 3 months, which didn’t work. I saw the Neurologist again (only waited 1 minute) and got a diagnosis and some medication and was discharged. They said if this doesn’t work then I can be instantly referred to the National Hospital of Neurology due to the notes they're putting in my medical file. Luckily the new medication has worked and I won’t need to go back for a long time. The only issue I had was reception staff being quite rude. Bu the consultant Neurologist was brilliant and I barely had to wait and was in and out of every appointment within 30 mins. I will always go back to Homerton!
