"Shocking care of the vunrable"

My partner went into west wing voluntary for help for severe depression

We were dumped in a room with no community on for over 2 hours.

He then had to divulge some very distressing information

I had to leave due to child care

From then on I had my partner on the phone in a distressed state as another patient had attempted to steal his wallet

Was given no medication then was given a small dose

I spoke to staff several times during the night and got fobbed off with that they will go and see him and offer support

I was on the phone to my partner for an hour after that call and no one went into my partner room he was just dumped and ignored

The staff didn't care and also what is the use of a dr being present but can't prescribe I'm disgusted

We apologise that you feel you have endured a bad start to engagement with mental health services during a time of crisis, there is obviously a mixture of people on the ward with varying degrees of mental illness, however there have been no reports of theft in recent times, so we apologise that this incident occurred whilst in our care.

There is a need for all patients to be clerked in by a ward doctor, to monitor your physical and emotional well-being on admission to the ward, so would have required a wait, as you would on admission to a general hospital, whilst the doctor arrives and gains the adequate information prior to seeing you, including sufficient medications as per prescriptions in the community which can often be hard to gain out of hours. We sincerely hope that the end and the rest of your admission to hospital was more purposeful and pleasant to your first evening on the ward.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

Dan Lowrie, Ward Manager
